Welcome to my blog about investments!
When I discussed with friends and colleagues, I found that investment is an interesting and intriguing topic. It is both an art and science. It sounds complicated at first. However, I found that there are some simple concepts/principles that I can follow to be relatively successful.
A lot of articles and blogs are written about how the authors are successful in their investments. However, I found very few articles that talked about the mistakes and lessons that they made in their investments. So, is everyone a rich investment genius? 🙂
Actually I found it easier to learn from others’ mistakes so that I don’t pay the price myself. So maybe I should start a blog on this topic and elicit some good ideas from you.
There are two well known investors that I learned my investment approaches from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Lynch and Warren Buffett.
Peter Lynch was the superstar manager of Fidelity Magellan Fund in the 80s. I recommend his book “One up on Wall Street : How to Use What You Already Know to Make Money in the Market” as a guidance on how to pick stocks.
Warren Buffett is one of the richest person on earth. I like his folksy and common sense approach on investments. The Berkshire Hathaway annual report is the only annual report that I read from cover to cover. You can also find them in Berkshire’s website http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/. Spend several minutes to read Warren’s and Chuck Munger’s letter about past, present and future of Berkshire http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/SpecialLetters/WEBCTMLtr.html. BTW, Berkshire’s website brought me back to the 90s as this is the only company website that has no fancy layouts/pictures. This reflects Warren’s philosophy of keeping a lean and mean corporate headquarters.
Just watch out for future posts…thank you!
